It has been such a great honor to serve on the Alameda Unified School District Board of Education these past 11+ years. I've been blessed to work with an incredible group of board members who are student-centered and strong advocates for each student's success.

I'm running again to keep building on the progress we've made — modern facilities, well-supported teachers, and a district where every child has room to grow.

"Gary's commitment to the students and families in Alameda is evident by his legacy of service in the Alameda unified school district. For over 10 years, Gary has been a staunch advocate for all students in AUSD, ensuring that every child has the individualized tools they need to thrive. It has been my honor to be a partner with Gary in this work, and his ongoing service on the Board of Education will ensure that AUSD continues to make great strides for everyone we serve in our entire AUSD family."

"As a school board member, I have worked side by side with Gary for the past six years, and can confidently say that he is in this role for all the right reasons. His commitment to the district and our community is genuine, and his decisions are guided by integrity, compassion, and a desire to serve."
Heather Little
AUSD Board Vice-President
"Gary Lym has been a relentless advocate for budget transparency and fiscal accountability. He has also fought hard to expand dual enrollment and ensure students whose first language is not English have the opportunities and support they deserve. Gary understands that strong schools require both responsible stewardship and bold investments in students, and I am proud to endorse his re-election."
Ryan LaLonde
President of the Alameda Board of Education
"It has been an honor to work alongside Gary on the school board. Gary brings tremendous integrity to his work and a deep commitment to doing what is right for Alameda's students. He cares deeply about creating strong working conditions and a positive school culture for our teachers and staff, while ensuring that every student has the support and pathways they need to succeed. His long history with AUSD, deep understanding of the district's finances, and thoughtful approach to governance make him an invaluable colleague. I am grateful for Gary's continued service to our schools and would be honored to continue working alongside him for the next four years."
Carrie Hahnel
AUSD Board Member
"Gary Lym is a longtime Alameda resident and former AUSD student who grew up in a proud, labor-friendly household. His family has deep roots in the labor movement, including his father, who was a sheet metal worker, and his mother, who was a classified employee and CSEA member who worked in Food Services at Encinal High School. Today, his son is also a proud union member working at the airport. Gary understands firsthand the value of hard work and the importance of supporting labor, skilled trades, and unions. Gary is also a passionate advocate for Alameda's students and their individual academic and career goals. He believes in supporting every student, whether their path leads to Career Technical Education (CTE), community college, a trade or vocational school, or a four-year college. You will be hard-pressed to find a stronger advocate for all students, especially students in Special Education, than Gary Lym. Gary has successfully served on the AUSD Board of Education for 12 years, driven by his commitment to the students, families, and employees of Alameda Unified. He consistently makes time to partner with CSEA Alameda Chapter 27, attend special events, meet with our scholarship recipients, and advocate for fairness, equity, and respect for all workers. For all of these reasons, CSEA Alameda Chapter 27 is proud to endorse Gary Lym for another four-year term on the AUSD Board of Education. This marks the fourth time our chapter has proudly endorsed Gary, reflecting the trust and confidence we have in his leadership and commitment to our schools and our community."
Amy Keegan
CSEA Chapter 27 President
"Gary Lym is an advocate for our Alameda students as well as our classified support staff. He attended Alameda public schools and so did his son. He believes in labor jobs as both of his parents were Union workers and now his son recently joined a Union in his new job. I met Gary when his son attended Lincoln Middle School and Gary was very active around the school as a School Site Council member and involved in the PTA. As his son moved onto high school, so did Gary. He stayed very active at the high school level too. He believes in public education and getting involved as a parent. Perfect person to ask to run for Alameda School Board and he did 11 years ago. It is wonderful to have a labor friendly School Board member who believes we all must work together for the betterment of the district. There are issues and concerns he wants to still address, so it is imperative we re-elect Gary Lym for Alameda School Board."
